1. ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Formula AM4 Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 ATX Motherboard (Best Overall Motherboard for 3070)

ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Formula AM4 Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 ATX Motherboard

You reach the next level of the X570-Mainboard with this part. For under $600 you get an absolute monster pounded in front of the bib. The ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Formula is the flagship of the ASUS X570 motherboards and certainly one of the highest quality AM4 boards from Asus.

The Formula competes with the best of the best and offers a wide variety of features for the enthusiast. For example, custom water cooling can be integrated into the VRM heatsink and even liquid nitrogen can be used to cool the CPU (via LN2 mode).

Nevertheless, we want to point out that there are many similarities with the Crosshair VIII Hero (Wi-Fi), which is around 150 dollars cheaper. So why get this board and not the Hero? Mainly because of the aesthetics, support of the water cooling and the chic LiveDash OLED display.

The 1.3-inch LiveDash OLED display can show useful information such as voltage regulation and error codes for the CPU, memory or graphics card. This is useful for quick troubleshooting, but you can also upload your custom logos or animations and have them shown on the display. Nice gimmick.

Compared to the Hero from above, the Formula also has a solid steel backplate that reinforces the circuit board to prevent it from bending and offers more stability. You will also find metal-reinforced PCIe slots here.

But the cooling is the biggest feature of the Formula board: A CrossChill III hybrid cooler from EK that covers the VRM with a combined water block and heat sink.

You can either connect the part to your own custom or use it as is with an air cooling solution. According to ASUS, the new design also offers wider copper channels and a large copper surface for better heat transfer.

Ports

Apart from the things mentioned, it can be equated with the Hero in terms of features (VRM, USB ports, LAN and WiFi controllers, M.2 slots, SATA etc.).

All in all, the VIII-Formula is very expensive, but it has a lot to offer. Overclocking functions like the Retry and Safeboot buttons from as well as the LN2 switch are great, the VRM uses very high quality components and the UEFI is packed with many functions (including user-defined profiles for overclocking the memory).

So if you’re looking for a high-end X570 motherboard with a VRM water block, high-end VRM and many special features, then check out the Crosshair VIII Formula. Otherwise you can get the cheaper Hero if these features don’t tell you anything.

2. ASUS ROG Strix X570-I Gaming mini-ITX Gaming motherboard (Best Mini ITX Motherboard for RTX 3070)

ASUS ROG Strix X570-I Gaming mini-ITX Gaming motherboard

If you want to build a compact m-ITX system based on AM4, then the Asus Strix X570-I Gaming is perfect for you. Here you get the best voltage converters on an ITX board that are available for the AM4 platform.

There are also features such as HDMI 2.0, USB 3.2, two M.2 slots, Intel LAN and even a WiFi module.

Of course the whole thing has its price, but you also get something for your money. The colleagues even ran a Ryzen 3900X at 4.3 GHz in their stress test and were enthusiastic about the performance of the board.

There is no real alternative for mini-ITX boards with X570, unless you can make friends with the slightly cheaper and worse board from Gigabyte. You may still be able to take a look at the predecessor, but this is only rarely available (still a very good mainboard).

So if you are looking for an extremely high-quality ITX board, you will definitely be happy with the X570-I Gaming from Asus.

3. Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Ultra (Best Budget Motherboard for RTX 3070)

Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Ultra

Intended for demanding AMD enthusiasts, it includes everything that is currently best. It is, of course, to be favored within the framework of a more advanced configuration.

Gigabyte integrates everything that is most interesting in its motherboard to make it one of the most complete models today. Thus, we are entitled to a proposal up to date and to all kinds of optimizations to push your components to the maximum.

This motherboard has the LGA-1200 socket coupled to the very latest chipset to date, the Z490. It is therefore compatible with the latest 10th generation Intel processors in addition to being optimized for overclocking to get the most out of your chip.

The cooling system is suitable for advanced overclocking: the brand has seen fit to integrate a good number of radiators to cool the connectors and M.2 disks. An active fan is also part of the game.

The whole is managed by Smart Fan 5 and its 9 sensors. You can also connect up to 7 fans to the dedicated connectors.

The last aspect is related to the other additions. First of all, RGB Fusion 2.0 support is provided with, as a bonus, 2 addressable RGB LED connectors and 2 more standard ones.

Then, the card is equipped with high-end audio capacitors and an integrated amplifier adjusting the impedance according to the connected equipment. Finally, a USB port is provided for updating your BIOS without requiring other components.

Ports

The connection is quite extensive with internally, 3 PCIe 3.0 ports (16x, 8x and 4x), SLI and CrossFireX compatibility, 3 M.2 ports (including one in PCIe 4.0 usable in 3.0 with this generation of processor) in addition to more classic connectors.

Externally, we are entitled to 4 USB 2.0, 2 USB 3.0, 3 USB 3.1, 1 USB-C 3.1 and 1 HDMI ports. Wi-Fi 6 AX and Bluetooth 5.0 complete the picture.

PCIe 16x are reinforced to support the most imposing components which makes it possible to place the most powerful graphics cards of the moment without fear of breakage.

It is also available in an AMD version with the X570 chipset. The latter is already compatible with PCIe 4.0 thanks to its link with the reds which already use this new standard.

However, it sacrifices 1 USB 3.2 (gen 2) port, DTS: X Ultra support and up to 5000 MHz RAM and 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port.

4. MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS Motherboard (Cheap Motherboard for RTX 3070)

MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS Motherboard

Equipped with the latest chipset to date, this motherboard has access to the new PCIe standards for better optimization of the components linked to it. You can therefore push your configuration to its limits.

With the advent of AMD processors (including the Ryzen 5 3600 , which largely crushes the competition), it is not surprising to find good motherboard models fitted with the latest technologies.

Thus, we find here PCIe 4.0 accompanied by M.2 SSD slots to push performance to its maximum. Unfortunately the X570 chipset is still quite expensive. As a result, RGB should be ignored with this model.

This is again a model in ATX format. It is equipped with the X570 chipset to deliver a high level of performance with the latest processors of the brand.

For cooling, there is a heatsink dedicated to one of the M.2 disks, a second, larger and completed with a fan to promote air flow and a connection provided for 6 additional fans which can be managed either by the BIOS or by the Dragon Center, provided by the brand.

Personalization is still ensured with the support of the RGB Mystic Light which allows you to control your compatible components and equipped with this type of lighting. No other connection is provided for a possible LED strip.

Ports

The connection is of course accordingly with 2 PCIe 4.0 16x ports (including 1 reinforced), 3 PCIe 4.0 1x, 1 M.2 – PCI-E 3.0 4x + SATA 6 Gb / s and 1 X M.2 – PCI-E 4.0 4x. CrossFireX support is of course provided and 4 DDR4 RAM modules can be installed with a maximum frequency of 4400 MHz .. or even more if you are for overclocking.

Externally, the set is quite classic with 2 USB 2.0 ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 3 USB 3.1 ports, 1 USB-C 3.1, 1 HDMI and the other usual connectors.

Its Intel counterpart is just as effective. It is unfortunately not compatible with PCIe 4.0 (Intel requires) and has a less extensive connection (2 external USB 3.1 ports and 2 internal USB 3.0 connectors less) but makes up for it by being compatible with RAM strips up to at 4800 MHz and having a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port.

5. ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 WiFi AX (Best Motherboard for RTX 3070 With Wifi 6)

ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 WiFi AX

The ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 is one of the cheapest X570 boards on the market and a clear recommendation for bargain hunters (if you can say that for X570 boards!).

The X570 Phantom Gaming 4 is great value for money with a mix of high quality components and a simple, yet effective design. The overall design consists of a black and gray circuit board with a black and gray actively cooled chipset heat sink and a gray power supply heat sink that keeps the CPU VCore area cool. So if you’re not into gray, this is probably not your board.

It also uses a 10-phase power supply with a single 8-pin 12V ATX CPU power input. In addition, DDR4-4066 memory with four available slots and a maximum of 64 GB are supported.

The audio codec only has the stripped-down ALC-1200, the LAN is controlled via a 1 Gigabit Ethernet port. Definitely a beginner board, but by no means a bad one.

Best Intel motherboards for RTX 3070

6. ASUS ROG Strix Z490-I Gaming (WiFi 6) (Best Thunderbolt 3 Motherboard for RTX 3070)

ASUS ROG Strix Z490-I Gaming Z490 WiFi 6

This motherboard in mini-ITX format can link to 10th generation Intel Core processors, with thunderbolt 3. It offers many possibilities for lovers of compact configurations while being compatible with overclocking.

The ASUS Rog Strix Z490-I Gaming is a motherboard in mini-ITX format which is intended primarily for Intel Core processors linked to the 1200 socket. In advance, it is oriented towards gamers as it is powerful.

Many optimization possibilities are also present so that you can concoct the perfect compact configuration both in terms of performance and heating control.

In terms of connectivity, there are 2 M.2 ports – PCI-E 3.0 4x + SATA 6 Gb / s, a PCI-Express 3.0 port (intended for a graphics card), 4 SATA III 6 Gb / s ports, 2 DDR4 slot (4800 MHz and XMP compatible – total of 64 GB maximum), 3 USB 3.1 (type A), 1 USB type-C, 2 USB 2.0, 2 USB 3.0, 1 Displayport and 1 HDMI 2.0. AX Wi-Fi (Mi-Mo included) and Bluetooth 5.1 are also in the game.

This carefully finished motherboard is based on the Z490 Express chipset intended for the latest iteration of Intel processors (10th generation). Great performance can be seen from the integration of built-in I / O protection, VRM cooler and dual-level cooling (for M.2 drive).

We also notice more energy savings. With all this information, we can say that it is designed for performance, ideal for minimizing the risk of lag during your gaming sessions.

Cooling

Cooling is also thought in this direction. The Z490 I-Gaming is indeed compatible with AIO watercooling solutions, PWM fans and even allows them to be managed via dedicated software. This element is more than important in compact configurations where the heat generating components are less spaced.

In addition to that, you can customize it to your liking by means of the RGB LEDs that compose it. So you can enhance the style of your computer or customize it with multiple colors (a dozen in total).

In conclusion, this motherboard gives you great performance, without overheating and in style. If you are a gamer or just looking for good responsiveness, this motherboard gives you some reliability.

In view of its mini-ITX format, it is mainly intended for compact configurations. Its AMD version is at the same level and offers similar performance.

7. MSI MAG Z490 Tomahawk Gaming Motherboard (Best Gaming Motherboard for RTX 3070)

MSI MAG Z490 Tomahawk Gaming Motherboard

MSI’s name Tomahawk has become synonymous with insane value for money, and that doesn’t change with their Z490 range! The MAG Z490 Tomahawk is equipped with quality components, excellent VRMs and dual LAN, At an economical price.

VRMs are fairly well built and should be able to handle even the 10700K without too many issues. While it can theoretically handle the 10900K as well, I don’t feel comfortable recommending it until I’ve had a chance to test the performance myself.

You really don’t want to buy a processor over $500, put an expensive fan in it, and then find your motherboard is slowing it down.

Like most of the Z490 motherboards we’ve covered here, the Tomahawk also offers two M.2 slots to add quick storage to your system. The lack of a third full-length PCI-E slot shouldn’t make too much of a difference for buyers focusing on the budget category of cards.

The fact that MSI offers a motherboard with dual LAN (Realtek 2.5 GbE and Intel Gigabit) at this price is enough to set it apart from the competition.

But add to that the build quality, rugged VRMs, and no compromises on important functions – you get a motherboard that will be a great companion for most 10th Gen Intel processors.

8. MSI MEG Z490 Unify ATX Gaming Motherboard (Best Micro ATX Motherboard for RTX 3070)

MSI MEG Z490 Unify ATX Gaming Motherboard

The name Unify seems to have become synonymous with value and quality, whether you go for builds from Intel or AMD. It outperforms many other competitors in its price range and is sure to deliver a sublime overclocking experience on the Core i9 10900K.

The regularly spaced PCI-E slots make Unify a great option even for workstations that require graphics card rendering.

While the Intel platform is not the best choice for business applications, some workloads prefer Intel over AMD. It is also not too strange for someone to build a combined working setup and renderer around the i9 10900K core.

Full-length PCI-E slots work in an x8 / x8 / x4 configuration when you fill all three. There are three M.2 slots to add a lot of high speed storage. Keep in mind, however, that a few SATA ports will be disabled if you fill in these three slots.

For gamers, this motherboard is almost certainly overkill . In other words, unless you want to get the best motherboard possible to make sure your processor is performing at peak performance without worrying about other factors that might be holding it back.

A busy back entry / exit makes me happy and so many others. You would think that most motherboards in the higher price category don’t skimp on this part of the motherboard, but there are a few boards that will surprise you.

While the motherboard comes with a Realtek 2.5GbE LAN, WiFi 6 support, and Bluetooth 5.1 support, the lack of Dual LAN at this price point is a bit of an annoyance.

If you want access to a better network as well as Thunderbolt, I recommend looking at Gigabyte’s Z490 Vision D instead.

Note

Unify does not support iGPU power. Although the Gigabyte Vision D below does, its memory configuration is not as good if you want to use high-speed (4000 ~) memory. So if your workload involves Intel QuickSync and you don’t need the Thunderbolt / Networking capabilities of Vision D, consider the ASUS Z490-E (ATX) gaming motherboard as a great alternative.

9. GIGABYTE Z490 AORUS PRO AX

GIGABYTE Z490 AORUS PRO AX

Gigabyte’s Z490 motherboard shines with above-average performance and 2.5 G LAN. Gigabyte is the only manufacturer to install a complete additional (4.0) M.2 slot, which cannot be used with Comet Lake CPUs.

There are also PCI Express 4.0 compatible components on the data paths of both GPU slots. With the Aorus Pro, Gigabyte is limited to “only” twelve voltage converter phases, but cools them with a much praised, fine heat sink. The effect of which is unfortunately limited by the (removable) plastic cover.

Gigabyte actually deserved praise for the sensible distribution of resources, but a × 1 slot permanently covered by dual-slot graphics cards and the limitation of the Type-C front header to USB 3.0 reduce the balance, but still bring it to second place in our ranking and on top of that the “price-performance winner” seal.

10. ASUS ROG Maximus XII Hero Z490 (WiFi 6) ATX Gaming Motherboard

ASUS ROG Maximus XII Hero Z490 WiFi 6 ATX Gaming Motherboard

For a budget of less than $400, the Asus Rog Maximus Hero XII Wifi motherboard is one of the two best to benefit from the Z490 chipset. It costs around $390.

Adapted for gaming, this motherboard offers connectors for watercooling, as well as a dual M.2 radiator and many headers for fans. At the connection level, it has two LAN ports, one of 1Gb and one of 5Gb. Not to mention Wifi 6 accompanied by Bluetooth 5.1. It is also suitable for users who wish to practice overlocking.

Its rear panel also incorporates an HDMI 1.4b port allowing you to enjoy a resolution of 4096 x 2160 up to 30Hz, on your monitor.

Conclusion:

If you are build a completely fresh gaming pc, we suggest you should consider PCIe 4.0, we’d pick AMD, as its Ryzen 3000 processors are compatible with these on X570 and B550 motherboards. In that case, ASUS ROG Strix X570-E is overall best motherboard equipped with your requirements for a capable PC.

You just have to make sure that you use a high-end RTX 3070 CPU. Otherwise, you might also see problems like bottlenecking with a high-end GPU like this.

Here I have discussed my personal favorite motherboards for RTX 3070 and I will hope you like them too.
