For many years, Asus has been offering high-end versions of Nvidia graphics cards through its “ROG” brand. This new generation is no exception to the rule, since the company has decided to continue by offering a 3070 to its sauce, under the name of “RTX 3070 ROG Strix”.
This one offers a rather basic and “boilerplate” design. There are 3 fans, ensuring optimal cooling against the consequent TDP of the GPU. These fans are RGB, and you can thus put them in the colors of the rest of your configuration, in order to have a more harmonious whole.
At the rear, the manufacturer has opted for a rather sober backplate, on which we will find the ROG logo. The latter is black, and adapts perfectly to the design of the card. In addition, it can improve heat dissipation during use.
From a software point of view, this 3070 is also interesting because it has two operating modes, configurable via the BIOS of your motherboard. The first allows the fans on the card to be used to their full potential, and thus to have the lowest possible temperatures. The second allows the fans to run a little slower, but thus to have totally zero noise pollution. We will therefore tend to use the first for games, and the second for office automation.
Be careful, the power requirements of this 3070 are quite substantial. Indeed, this one needs 3 connectors and 8 pins to be supplied. The manufacturer also recommends having a power supply of at least 750W, or even more depending on the rest of your components. Obviously, the higher the certification of your food, the better.
The second card in our comparison comes from the manufacturer EVGA. This one was until now known to offer through its XC range cards more affordable than the average, silent and well cooled. Unlike the other custom versions of EVGA (especially the Kigpin), the cooling is here exclusively provided by fans, of which there are 3, which therefore justifies the entry-level pricing of the card. Power is supplied by two 8-pin PCI Express connectors. It is recommended to have a power supply of at least 650W or 750W to be able to power the GPU properly.

The appearance is embellished by the presence of an RGB fan in the center of the card, customizable via the Velocity X tool. Besides the RGB fans, the design is quite successful. There is a kind of metal frame on the upper part and the lower part of the facade, giving a very nice appearance to the card. PNY has also chosen to affix its logo in the center of each fan. The logo is however as it is in reality, and does not fit very well with the “futuristic” design of the card. We would therefore have liked a little more work at this level, such as for example that this one is RGB.
